Quarters
Rog handles Dr. Ivo’s fireballs with aplomb knocking him out in straight sets and making Gigantor look awfully flatfooted.
Tommy Haas is having the run of his life having saved 2 match points from Marin Cilic and now knocks off Novak in the quarters in 4 solid sets. Nole looked very tired, physically and psychically, in the loss. Tommy will see Rog on Friday. Sorry Tommy.
Murray knocks off one of the best looking on the men’s side, Juan Carlos Ferrero to sustain his roll into the semis. He’ll be playing either Lleyton or or Roddick in what should be a great semi.
At this point in my viewing Lleyton and Roddick have split the first 2 sets and are duking it out in the third on serve. It’s Roddick’s serve and forehand versus Lleyton’s speed and counterpunching. Both men are playing exemplary tennis.
The new Thom Mayne building at Cooper Union came up at dinner last night. Mao et Starshine condemning it’s brutality and insolence. Balkano approving of its ambition and novelty.
I hedged my answer, reserving judgment until the thing is finished but, if the CalTrans building in downtown LA is any kind of guide, I think this building will be something else when it’s finished and in use. As the day turns to dusk and the building begins to emit light from beneath its mesh it’ll add something to Cooper Square and might begin to help people forget about this.
Tennis Wives
Rog is obviously the best player [ever] but when it comes to his better half, well, she isn’t.
Mirka Federer seems very devoted but, by professional athlete standards, she’s a 6.
So then, who has the hottest woman in his box. Married or simply attached?
There’s Andy Roddick’s new bride Brooklyn Decker. Trés yum.
Lleyton Hewitt’s lady, Bec Cartwright is pretty hot but lacks sufficient chinage.
Tommy Haas is engaged to Sarah Foster. Hot but a little generic LA.
Andy Murray’s little English rose is very cute but, like all English women, she already suggests the old crow she’ll become.
I’ve never seen Rafa’s lady but I’m sure she’s adorable.
